Why did you start your business?

One of the most common questions I get to this day is… “when you started your first business what was your business plan?”

Here’s my secret: I didn’t have one! No, really, I didn’t. I was too busy doing market research and evaluating the opportunities in the marketplace to be doing any business plans. I also didn’t have a coach/ mentor or belong to any Business mastermind groups.

I had never run a business before, I just saw my immigrant parents run their business ( my family are 4th generation entrepreneurs )

Why did you start your business? I focused on 3 things:

  1. Make it
  2. Sell it
  3. Build awareness.

I designed the service and packaged it up so that I could sell it to as many businesses as I could.

Most of my time was spent building excitement and awareness. We didn’t have Facebook ads in those days.

Then I would repeat the cycle. That’s it! I see a lot of entrepreneurs with really great ideas freeze in their tracks because of their “lack of experience” or knowledge.

But what you “don’t” know could be the very thing that sets you apart from all the rest.

  • Follow your purpose.
  • Lead with your story.
  • Focus on your service… the rest will work itself out
